If I told you that the UK was home to some of the most spectacular beaches I’ve seen in the World would you think I’d had one to many ciders? Well never fear, I’m not half cut writing this (although that might make for an interest post..but I digress) but I am telling you the truth!

15 Reasons to Visit Cornwall

Located in the South West of the country lies the county of Cornwall which is bordered to the North & West by the rugged Celtic sea and to the south by the English Channel. A county rich with history and legends, incredibly friendly people and a seriously stunning coast line. From white sandy beaches with crystal clear sea to rugged clifftop coastal paths with a churning blue sea below. Hold onto your hats as I share 15 photos which should give you 15 reasons to make you want to visit Cornwall.

First things first, where is Cornwall? Located in the southern part of The UK known for beautiful beaches, breathtaking coastal walks and the perfect in country holiday destination for anyone visiting the UK no matter the season. From the . rugged surf of Winter to the white sandy shorelines in Summer and everything in between. Here are some reasons to get yourself down to the Coast asap!

St-Agnes

St-Agnes Cornwall, England

Home to less than 10 000 people this picturesque town is more like a village and on the Northern coast of Cornwall. Summer is my recommendation for this stretch of golden beach, even better if it’s during a UK heatwave, perfect for swimming.

St-Ives

Known for it’s ruggedly beautiful surfing beaches & a fab art scene I had the pleasure of spending a few days down in this part of Cornwall with some friends this Spring and used it as a base for several of the spots mentioned below (Mousehole, Porthcurno Beach, Newlyn, Bedruthan Steps, Clodgy Point, & St-Michaels Mount). The beach here is stunning and the harbour & low tide is something to be marvelled at.

Clodgy Point

Clodgy Point Cornwall

If you’re in St-Ives you’ll likely find yourself at Porthmeor beach (or the cafe there) for a walk, lunch or a surf. But do yourself a favour and continue onwards from there. Shortly after leaving the beach you’ll reach Clodgy Point which is part of the South West Coast Path, and even on the windiest o f days is worth it for the views.

Mousehole

2.5 miles South pf Penzanze (which is also meant to be a beaut but I haven’t been to) you’ll feast your eyes on a lovely strip of coastline, Instagrammable houses & lots of boats. Oh and don’t forget to pop into The Rockpool Cafe for a meal/coffee with a view!

Porthcurno Beach

Porthcurno Beach Cornwall

If you’ve heard of the Minnack Theatre then look no further and you’ll find this beach. Catch a show in the theater or walk down (some pretty steep) the steps to the beautiful shoreline that awaits. If you’re lucky you’ll spot some playful seals in the surf too!

Newlyn

Newlyn Cornwall

A fishing port in the south west of Cornwall this is the perfect spot to get your boat fix, from tiny sailers, massive fishing boats & even the odd rowboat to mix it up a little bit. Bedruthan Steps

Bedruthan Steps Cornwall

Nestled between Padstow & Newquay on the North Cornish coast you’ll find a place that will have you wondering if you’ve stepped into Lord of the Rings (or at least I did). 120+ steps lead you from the clifftops to the beach during low tide where you’ll be able to explore through caves and watch the surf crash against some incredible rock formations.

St-Michaels Mount

Not to be mistaken for Mont St-Michel in France, this spot is indeed in Cornwall and similar to the French version. A small tidal island that can be reached by a cobbled causeway at low tide or by boat at high tide. A Nation trust property, you can pay to enter the castle or walk the grounds and the causeway for free. If you manage to arrive for sunset do yourself a favour and grab a table at The Godolphin Arms and watch the beauty unfold.

Mevagissey

5 Miles South of the not so photogenic St-Austell you’ll find yourself in a postcard. I kid you not, the harbour, the clifftops & the beaches that make you wonder if you’re actually in Indonesia (in Summer at least) will have you never wanting to leave.

Polzeath

Polzeath Cornwall

Grab your mates, a tent & a surfboard. That’s all you’ll really need on your visit to Polzeath on the Atlantic coast. If you fancy a camping holiday then check out Valley Caravan Park for your stay. Tents, caravans, campervans, whatever you fancy!

Newquay

Newquay Cornwall

Known for Fistral Beach & Lusty Glaze beach, this is the perfect mix of city & beach town all rolled into one. Even more impressive is the Legacy Hotel that looks out over it all.

So whether you're looking for rugged coastline to walk for days on end, white sandy beaches to post up for the summer or a mix of both you're sure to find it on a visit to Cornwall. Remember there is so much more to see in the UK than castles, old buildings and the inside of pubs!
